Tips for Incorporating Cannabis Into a Your Lifestyle

When used responsibly, cannabis can be a great addition to any lifestyle. Many successful athletes, personal trainers, yoga instructors, and wellness gurus regularly use cannabis. These fit professionals defy the outdated and negative stereotypes that associated cannabis with lazy, out-of-shape slackers. In some cases, using cannabis may even supercharge your daily health routine!

So how can you incorporate cannabis into a healthy lifestyle? First, if you’re new to cannabis or only a light, casual user, remember to give your body time to adjust. You’ll want to make sure you understand how different strains, dosages, and delivery methods affect you. For example, some cannabis users are extra sensitive to edibles and may wish to avoid them prior to exercising (or altogether.)

Once you know your personal “cannabis profile,” you can begin gradually incorporating cannabis into a healthy lifestyle in several ways. Here are some of our favorite tips:

Tip #1. Start Your Morning with CBD

CBD is one of the chemical compounds found in cannabis. Within the past few years, CBD has become one of the most popular ways to consume cannabis because it offers the health benefits of cannabis without the plant’s psychoactive effects. In other words, CBD won’t get you “high,” but it will help manage anxiety, pain, inflammation, and other conditions.

Many health enthusiasts have discovered a tremendous benefit from using CBD in the mornings. One of our favorite methods for consuming CBD is to add a few drops of a CBD oil or tincture to our morning coffee. The calming effect of CBD can dramatically reduce or eliminate “caffeine jitters” while helping overcome the stress of your morning commute.

For non-coffee drinkers, CBD is also great in a green smoothie, protein shake, or mixed into a hearty oatmeal. It doesn’t taste like anything, so it can be added to virtually any food or drink.

Tip #2. Try a Cannabis-Infused Workout

Although it might sound counterintuitive to consume cannabis for a workout, many athletes have found that cannabis actually helps them attain a flow-state more easily and therefore improves their performance. It can even be energizing and help you feel more connected to your body.

Many people report that the euphoric effects of cannabis can transform a repetitive exercise, such as jogging or lifting weights, into a much deeper, more pleasurable experience. Some athletes also claim that working out while using cannabis helps them push past their mental limitations.

Generally, sativa and sativa-dominant hybrid strains are the best types of cannabis to consume before working out. As a word of caution, always be careful about operating exercise equipment while using cannabis, especially if you’re new to cannabis-infused exercise. Have a gym buddy to spot you whenever possible.

Tip #3. Experiment With Edible Recipes

Edibles are another way to incorporate cannabis into a healthy lifestyle. While most people associate edibles with unhealthy treats like cookies and candies, there are actually many other ways to cook with cannabis. These savory cannabis recipes can easily be incorporated into a healthy nutrition plan, including specialty diets like keto, paleo, and vegan.

Cannabis-infused cooking oil, also known as “canna oil,” is one of our favorites because it’s so versatile. Often made with olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil as a base, you can use canna oil in almost any normal recipe. Try canna oil for cooking entrees, drizzle it over salads and veggies, or create healthy snacks by using canna oil for kale chips and oven-roasted chickpeas. The possibilities are endless.

Tip #4. Meditate With Cannabis

Leading a healthy lifestyle means taking care of your mind as well as your body. Meditation is a powerful tool for mental health, but it can be surprisingly difficult or even feel overwhelming for some. If you’re struggling to meditate, cannabis may help. It can make it less uncomfortable to sit for a long period while also calming anxious thoughts, allowing you to focus more clearly on your breathing, mantra, or visualization technique. Some users also find that cannabis enables them to attain a deeper level of meditation.

Smoking or vaping is usually the best method for ingesting cannabis before meditating, as these methods generally allow you to consume smaller, lighter doses. The key to meditating with cannabis is to use just the right amount -- enough to relax deeply without falling asleep. Which brings us to our last tip for incorporating cannabis into a healthy lifestyle...

Tip #5. Use Cannabis For a Rejuvenating Sleep

A full night’s sleep is vital to a healthy lifestyle. In fact, if you’re not getting 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night, it may begin to negatively impact your health. Sleep deprivation has been linked to a variety of health problems, ranging from weight gain and diabetes to cardiovascular disease and even Alzheimer’s. Unfortunately, 1 in 3 adults don’t get enough sleep

If you struggle to fall asleep and stay asleep, cannabis can help. Indica and indica-dominant hybrid strains are especially potent for inducing sleep. Try smoking, vaping, or consuming an edible before bed. The relaxing euphoria of cannabis will lull you into a deep, rejuvenating, healthy sleep. Sweet dreams!
